Our denomination

Unitarian Universalism

Unitarian Universalism is a religion centered on an open-ended quest for meaning in life and shared effort to put our best values into practice every day. It has its roots in two distinct liberal religious movements that shared a philosophy of religious tolerance and questioning. Unitarian Universalists search for truth along many paths. Instead of centering our religion on specific beliefs, we gather around shared values that include the inherent worth and dignity of every person. The most succinct yet comprehensive statement of our common beliefs is contained in the Beliefs and Principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).

UUCF’s Leadership Development Team

The Leadership Development Team (LDT), which reports to the Coordinating Team (CT) – as part of its mission to make leadership development an enduring part of UUCF culture – seeks to enrich congregational life at UUCF and promote the strength of Unitarian Universalism by:

  • Promoting awareness of the larger UU faith community by apprising the congregation, lay ministry, CT and the board of the programs sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and the UUA Central East Regional Group (CER).
  • Encouraging and promoting UUCF’s financial and other support to the denomination.
  • Encouraging support of and participation in denominational activities including, but not limited to, attendance at leadership trainings, meetings and conferences.
  • Staying connected with the larger UU faith community.

Committee Responsibilities

The LDT’s denominational activities include:

  • Recruiting and preparing UUCF delegates to the annual General Assembly of the UUA.
  • Administering congregational subsidies and scholarships to participants with priority given to creating a diverse delegation of congregants, including youth, young adults and members of color.

  • UUA General Assembly, Jun. 23-27, 2021, is 100% virtual, allowing more ways to take part than ever before. You can register as a participant to watch and be involved in GA events, or be one of 16 UUCF delegates to take part and vote in general sessions. The delegate application form can be found here.
