During the month of February, we turn our attention as a congregation to the spiritual theme of Beloved Community, with Black History Month as living and historical context, a new national administration and direction and a growing global pandemic.
In the past several weeks, I have found deep solace in the observance of public ritual. From the local multi-congregation event in January, Holding Space: Vigil for Ourselves & Each Other, to the National COVID Memorial Service broadcast on the evening before the inauguration, to the celebration on Jan. 20, 2021, that lasted from morning until late into the evening on live national television and subsequently included more of the national public than ever before. The pomp and circumstance, the fanfare, the reverence, even the moments of silence observed online and on television, all feel like a healing balm to the layers of trauma we share.
This will be another opportunity to observe public ritual together, mark another year – another trip around the sun, and hold each other in Love, Light and Good Vibrations. While we cannot yet join hands, feel the warmth of the chalice in our Sanctuary or the thrill of spontaneous harmonies, my prayer and invitation is that we continue to learn how expansive our Love and Light truly are. If you haven’t caught some of the music in worship lately, you’ve been missing some seriously good vibes. The Healing Service will include music featuring Laura Weiss and me as well as interactive ritual. It will be a time to gather, lay down our burdens and rest. We are called to breathe into Beloved Community even and especially when our voices shake.
The Healing Service gathering of Beloved Community on Feb. 12 will ignite the beginning of Let Your Love Flow Week at UUCF. The monthly Food Drive on Feb. 14 will support the community’s growing food needs during the pandemic. To encourage and celebrate our overflowing generosity, there will also be a socially distanced photo opportunity at the Food Drive! The week will conclude with the Love Cabaret open mic event on Feb. 19 featuring love-themed performances. Let your Love flow, dear ones!
