By the UUCF Membership Committee
“Would you like to answer the Question of the Month?” Last September, the Membership Committee began asking a question each month to encourage congregants to think more deeply about the UU principles and their personal experiences with the hope that their answers (posted the following month in the Commons) would inspire others. For visitors, sometimes the thing that makes them stay after the service is just having something to do or read in the Commons. And hopefully the question and answers can give a visitor extra insight into what the UUCF community is all about. For longtime members and friends, it’s easy to know what the people you regularly interact with think, but what about those you don’t know so well? Or maybe YOU have something to say that could benefit others.
The answers, from adults and kids and always anonymous, range from uplifting …
Q: Who are the less obvious people in your life that you’re thankful for and why?
A: The motherly neighbor who helped me unload my car after I moved cross-country, even though she didn’t know me or speak the same language as me.
to meaningful …
Q: Is there anything you plan to add or change in your life this year that reflects your UU principles?
A: I’m going to add my preferred pronouns (he/him/his) to my work email signature to raise visibility and show support for the transgender and gender non-binary people in my life.
to motivating …
Q: What spiritual practice do you engage in or plan to start in 2020?
A: Journaling an intention for the day each morning.
to heartfelt …
Q: What is the best non-material gift you’ve ever been given?
A: A dad who taught me how to love and be tolerant.
This month, inspired by membership recognitions and new member sign-ups on Sun., Mar. 8, the question is a simple one, but the answers will be as varied as the congregation: How has membership at UUCF helped bring meaning to your life?
The Membership Committee would love to hear your answer. (You can respond anonymously online by clicking here.) Then stop by the Legacy Room after services this Sunday to read what your other UUCFers have to say, welcome new members and have a piece of cake!
