By the UUCF 8th Principle Project Team.
At UUCF’s Jun. 6 Annual Meeting, the congregation will decide whether to adopt the proposed Unitarian Universalist 8th Principle:
We covenant to affirm and promote journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.
In preparation for this decision, the UUCF Racial Justice Steering Committee has held two listening sessions to help members understand the principle and what its adoption might mean for UUCF. It also hosted a workshop led by the 8th Principle co-author Paula Cole Jones. If you were unable to join the May 8 workshop, “Building a Culture of Inclusion,” consider joining a watch party to view a video of the workshop on Thu., May 27, 6:30-9 p.m. Please email Marcia Tugendhat for more information and the Zoom link.
In the video above, five congregants – Chloe French, Norma Gonzales Vallejo McComber, Rick Hirschoff, AJ Ingson and Anthony Salvi-Exner – share impressions of what the 8th Principle means to them. Videos of other congregants will be featured on UUCF’s Facebook page throughout the coming week. As you take in their messages, please consider for yourself:
- What does the 8th Principle mean to you personally and to the congregation?
- How could living the 8th Principle change UUCF?
- How might the 8th Principle help us live out our mission “to transform ourselves, our community and the world through acts of love and justice?”
