Last month I was at a Zoom meeting with UUCF’s new Lay Minister for Worship & Arts Rebecca Benner. She was sitting outside and someone asked where she was that it looked so bright when it was overcast for most of us. Her reply, “It’s not sunny, but there’s a lot of light in here,” has been reverberating in my mind for weeks. For me, it sums up perfectly what it means to be a part of UUCF. These days, with what feels like a hurricane outside, the sun seems hard to come by, but UUCF reminds me multiple times a week that it’s a place we can find some light. Whether it’s continuing to work for social justice from a social distance, joining a community altar project, or seeing smiling faces over Zoom on Sunday morning or at a hymn sing, we’re bringing light to each other and the larger world. Our work to live out the values and principles of Unitarian Universalism is shining in each one of us.
Becoming a member of UUCF is a tangible way to contribute to that light. Our members represent UUCF’s history and future – the best of this faith and the best of our intentions. Membership reflects an individual’s deep level of commitment to the UUCF community. And making that choice is an opportunity to decide how “all in” they want to be.
This Sunday is Membership Day, which means during the service we’ll recognize people who have made that commitment to UUCF in the last year. We’ll also have new membership sign-ups after the service for anyone who thinks this congregation is the right partner for their spiritual journey.
Whether you call yourself a member, a friend or a visitor, thank you for making UUCF a place filled with love, kindness, hope and a much-needed, very bright light.
