At last year’s Annual Meeting, UUCF passed the 8th Principle and committed to do the heart and mind work needed to grow into a vibrant diverse congregation. This congregational year, various committees have been examining ways to incorporate recommendations made in the Unitarian Universalist Association’s (UUA) Widening the Circle of Concern report and live into the 8th Principle. Early in the congregational year, a board subgroup was formed to look at the UUCF Bylaws and Governance Manual to consider first steps on the road to becoming a congregation that truly reflects all eight principles.
The Board 8th Principle Subgroup spent several months researching work done by other UU congregations and choosing ideas that seemed best for UUCF. The subgroup determined the Governance Manual needed to be more explicit in pledging the congregation’s intent to live into all eight principles. While working on incorporating these ideas, the subgroup found updates were also needed in other parts of the Governance Manual. You can view the proposed changes, highlighted in yellow, in this document. To view a final version, with all changes incorporated, click here.
The board’s work on this project has provided opportunities for rich discussions as we shape the path forward. As always, the board welcomes any questions. You can contact us at board@uucf.org.
