Date/TimeTue., August 18, 2020 from 12:00 am
In a special session beginning Aug. 18, the Virginia General Assembly will consider, among other things, whether to extend eviction protections to low-income renters who have been out of work because of COVID-19. These are usually people of color who are disproportionately affected by the coronavirus. They should not be out on the street because their incomes were reduced by the pandemic.
Congregants are urged to contact their legislators to encourage them to extend the eviction moratorium and enact best practices to help tenants. Find your legislator here. Please also send your message to Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates Eileen Filler-Corn and Majority Leader of the Senate of Virginia Dick Saslaw.
Sample letter here. Please send your letters as soon as possible so they arrive before Aug. 18.
