The Virginia Department of Elections strongly encourages residents to protect their health during the COVID-19 outbreak by voting absentee by mail in the Jun. 23 Democratic and Republican Primary Elections. Voters may choose reason “2A My disability or illness” for absentee voting. The deadline to apply to receive an absentee ballot – by mail, fax or online – is Tue., Jun. 16, at 5 p.m. The easiest way to request an absentee ballot is online here. Learn other acceptable ways of applying to vote absentee at the Fairfax County Office of Elections website. Once your completed application is received and accepted, your absentee ballot will be sent to you in 3 business days. To be counted, ballots must be returned to the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day. If you have questions about your ballot, call the Office of Elections at 703-222-0776.
The state has waived the requirement to have a witness present while completing your absentee ballot for the Jun. 23 election. Accordingly, voters may disregard the witness signature requirement if they believe they cannot safely have a witness present while completing their ballot due to COVID-19.
