Director of Religious Exploration

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax (UUCF) seeks a Director of Religious Exploration (DRE) to oversee a Religious Exploration program serving 280+ children and youth from infants through high school seniors. The DRE oversees more than 100 adult volunteers implementing program activities and supervises three part-time employees responsible for youth ministry, child care and general support.

The DRE works with ministers, staff and lay leaders to nurture spiritual development and social responsibility among the congregation’s children and youth and ensures a welcoming environment and integration and effective communication among and between families, volunteers, staff and other sectors of the congregation. The position also assists, supports and leads congregational anti-racism/anti-oppression/multiculturalism efforts aimed at addressing systems of marginalization, oppression and supremacy. The DRE also contributes to overall vision and strategy for lifespan faith development and participates in the congregation’s strategic planning process.

Assistant Minister for Congregational Life

The Assistant Minister for Congregational Life is charged with supporting four primary functions in congregational life:

  • Development and engagement of UUCF members across the entire membership continuum
  • Leadership development
  • Spiritual enrichment
  • Pastoral care

This includes exploring and implementing innovative strategies and programs to engage UUCF congregants in the life of the congregation. The assistant minister is a member of the Coordinating Team – the senior leadership group charged with implementing and overseeing day-to-day congregational activities and programs – and also actively participates in worship leadership and preaching.
