Single-use plastic bags are everywhere. The average Virginian uses about 320 plastic bags each year. Statewide, that’s 3 billion bags. Most are thrown away, cluttering landfills and waterways. The most effective way to curtail single-use bags is to ban or to charge a small fee per bag at store checkouts. Funds generated could go toward cleaning up plastic pollution. Please stop by the Climate Action Group table in the Commons after services to sign a petition urging Virginia legislators to adopt a ban or fee on single-use plastic bags.
