49 Days to Go!
Sep. 16, 2020.
Whether it’s through UUCF’s UU the Vote team or through one of the hundreds of organizations working on the election, so many UUCF members are getting out the vote. It’s time to highlight and celebrate your amazing work and keep doing more.
This week we’re celebrating Bob Root, above with his wife, Brenda. Bob has been a UUCF member since 1999. As a participant in the Climate Action Group, Bob has joined the group’s push to vote our values to protect the planet.
Bob writes about his own efforts:
“As a card-carrying introvert I sought for a means to help out with the upcoming election. I don’t do well at canvassing or even phone or text banking. Writing letters and postcards is the ideal way for me to contribute. I started 2 years ago with the Vote Forward program, personalizing standardized letters to send to voters and potential voters, mostly in swing states. For the 2018 congressional election I wrote about 200 of them, and have continued regularly since then with primaries and special elections. Now there are enormous opportunities to write letters and postcards for a variety of election issues – registering to vote, getting out to vote and arguing for or against special issues like referenda.
“UU the Vote, Herndon Reston Indivisible and Sierra Club are all involved. Every 2 weeks my wife and I write 20 to 40 postcards about getting out the vote, and we routinely write 10-20 letters a week for the Sierra Club and Vote Forward. We’re up to about 500 letters and 250-300 postcards – they really add up! UU the Vote, with the monthly UUCF letter-writing parties and postcard distribution is doing a great job adding to the flood of letters and postcards heading out to ensure a great turnout for the upcoming election. There’s still time, and I heartily encourage people to join any of these efforts.”
