Sun., April 21, 2024 – Earth Day Celebration
Celebrate Earth Day 2024 with a Sunday full of activities cosponsored by the Music and Arts Program, Religious Exploration Program, and Act for Climate Today! (ACT!). Worship Service details and order of worship are below the schedule of events.
10 a.m.
- “Voices of the Future” all-ages worship w/ puppeteer and Earth Day singalong with children’s choirs in our region. Service is livestreamed here.
11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
- Pre-order a scrumptious lunch prepared by holistic nutritionist and chef, Dr. Ruby.
- Music by Rick Landers & Heartland in the Amphitheater (between the Sanctuary and Admin Building). Bring a picnic blanket and/or chairs to enjoy the band and picnic.
- Displays & demos from Trace Zero Waste Store, VA Herpetological Society, Audubon at Home & more.
- Earth Day art show artists reception in the Music & Arts Room.
For children and youth
- Bingo the Bubbleologist
- Scavenger hunt
- Pine cone bird seed project
- Other Earth-centered projects
Multiplatform service at 10 a.m. The service is also available via livestream.
- Worship participants: Senior Minister Rev. David A. Miller, Director of Music & Arts Laura Weiss, and Worship Associate AJ Ingson. Audiovisual support provided by members of the AV Tech Team: Dave Anderson, Haydar Bolunmez, Bill Braband, Tom Hettenhouser, Mary Lareau, Ben Mellott and/or Alan Steel.
- Music: The UUCF Voices of Hope Youth Choir and Joyful Noise Music and Movement Group, Cedar Lane UU Children’s Choir and UU Church of Reston Children’s Choir. Other youth musicians are listed in the order of worship below.
- Religious Exploration: All-congregation service. No RE classes.
- Service Rebroadcasts: The entire service is rebroadcast via livestream on Sundays at 1 and 7 p.m. and Mondays and Tuesdays and 7 p.m.

The Share the Plate recipient for April is Plant NOVA Natives, an all-volunteer campaign developed by a coalition of non-profit, governmental, and private groups, aimed at reversing the decline of native plants and wildlife in Northern Virginia. The group’s strategy is to encourage residents and public and commercial entities to install native plants as the first step toward creating wildlife habitat and functioning ecosystems on their own properties.
