Loving our Pollinators

September 18, 2025.

By Bob Root, leader, the UUCF Garden Gnomes.

You no doubt have noticed the shortening of the days and the gradual decline of temperatures as fall approaches. You’ll also have noticed the waning of the spectacular display of flowers in the UUCF gardens. Besides being impressive and beautiful, these flowers have supported a large variety of pollinators throughout the summer. We hope you’ve taken some time to observe them in action. The more such opportunities for pollinators to feed like this, the more native plants can take hold and thrive in our yards and woodlands and be the basis of healthy ecosystems, biodiversity, and resilient food webs. We’re looking forward to an abundance of pollinator-supporting flowers next summer and playing an even larger role in restoring biodiversity or rebuilding a healthy ecosystem. We hope you’ll take advantage of the benefits of such native plants in whatever garden you can maintain.
