Dear UUCF Community,
Seventy years ago, a small group of people of faith came together near here to found the Fairfax Unitarian Church, now the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax. At its founding, our congregation was nothing but our founders’ time, treasure, and commitment to one another.
Without property, a minister, or staff, they had a vision that a liberal religious faith would be a beacon of truth and meaning for one another and for the society around them. We share that vision, which we make manifest each time we gather and care for one another and the broken world that surrounds us.
Almost 2 years ago, your Board of Directors started the Living the Mission process, where we reached out to you to better understand what our vision of Grow, Connect, and Serve means in this different time, and for the people who sit beside us, shaded by the trees planted so many years ago.
Throughout this process, we heard that we needed to Secure our future, Provide spiritual strength through ministry, Increase visibility, and Expand our social justice reach. To meet these goals, the Board of Directors voted to start the process for a capital campaign.
Over the last month and half, nearly 200 congregants joined in the 22 listening sessions, where the Board proposed five areas of focus for such a campaign:
- Critical needs
- Sanctuary upgrades
- Campus upgrades
- Social justice
- Securing our financial future
When asked if the congregation would be willing to support these goals with their hard-earned financial resources, 75% of us said yes, while 76% of us said we would be willing to support the campaign with our time (in true UU fashion, 35% of that total would like more information). In response to this strong expression of congregational interest, the Board voted to launch a capital campaign.
We will be transparent during this campaign, and to that end, here is what to expect: From October to January will be the advanced campaign. In January, we will have a big party to kick off the campaign. From January to March, we will do campaign visits to every single member or friend of the congregation. In late spring of 2026, we will hold a victory celebration.
We will be looking for your help and input at every step of this important journey, and you will be hearing more about the campaign in the months to come.
I personally am excited about the opportunity this campaign will give us to not only care for our shared campus, filled with beauty, but to connect individually with one another, to talk about those ties that bind us, one to another: 70 years past, today, and 70 years into the future.
Dillon Ginley
President, UUCF Board of Directors
