Endowment

The UUCF Endowment Fund was initiated in 1994 to create a source of funds that support the long-term strategic aims of the congregation. Over time, the fund has provided seed money for social justice projects and purchased specific items the congregation could not cover through the annual operating fund. The fund is separate from the annual operating fund, capital campaigns or any other special fund maintained at UUCF. It is a permanent, principal-restricted, distributable income fund managed by the UUCF Board of Directors and invested with the Unitarian Universalist Association’s (UUA) Common Endowment Fund. Income from the fund is used for UUCF member and committee-initiated grants and projects that enhance the purpose and strategic goals of the congregation apart from its general operation, including projects that promote social justice, strengthen UUCF’s mission or meet unanticipated essential needs of the congregation.

The Endowment Fund is administered by the Board of Directors. The board adopted a policy in September 2022 for the administration of the Endowment Fund.

Applying for Endowment Grants

Applying for Endowment Grants

Similar to years past, UUCF members may apply for grants from income generated by UUCF’s Endowment Fund. Grant requests should meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Strengthen the mission to transform ourselves, our community, and the world through acts of love and justice;
  • Promote transformational and sustainable change through one of UUCF’s five pillars of social justice: Service, Education, Organizing, Witness, and Advocacy;
  • Promote the growth of UUCF membership; and/or
  • Enhance the impact or visibility of UUCF in the broader community.

Grant requests may be made at any time by completing an Endowment Grant Application below. All grant requests received will be considered by a review committee of the Board or Directors each Nov. 15 and Mar. 15, with grant determinations made by the full board. This process implements the amendment to Article 13 of the Bylaws, approved at the UUCF Annual Meeting in June 2022. This process is part of a new Endowment Fund Management Policy created by the board pursuant to the Bylaws as amended.Under this policy, a limited withdrawal of income will continue to be made from the Endowment Fund each year for projects that enhance the purpose and strategic goals of the Congregation apart from its general operation, including projects that promote social justice, strengthen UUCF’s mission, or meet unanticipated essential needs of the Congregation. Any funds remaining at the end of the fiscal year will be deposited into the capital reserve.These revisions to the administration of Endowment Fund proceeds, approved by the congregation in June, support essential congregational needs and continue the availability of congregational grants, in a simplified process.The Board welcomes all grant requests, and looks forward to continuing the prudent management of Endowment Funds in support of the UUCF mission.
