You are love, you are loved, we together are love embodied.
UUCF lives principles of radical hospitality. Every Sunday service is centered in an opening welcome – “whoever you are and whomever you love … you are welcome.” This welcome represents UUCF’s commitment to be a safe and affirming faith community in every aspect of congregational life, from worship services and Religious Exploration to small groups and social events. Building a space of LGBTQIA+ Equity is one of the ways we represent our moral commitment against the intolerance many have experienced in other religions. UUCF aims to be a welcoming, safe and healing space.
In 1994, UUCF became a Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregation by launching a program to unlearn homophobia and transphobia in our hearts, minds, congregations and communities. Almost 30 years later, UUCF continues its active and strong commitment to LGBTQIA+ equity. In the face of harassment, marginalization and attempted book bans by political forces, supporting FCPS Pride and the Pride Liberation Project at the Fairfax County School Board has been a major focus of UUCF’s social justice ministry.
UUCF also regularly participates in Pride events and supports advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights. If you have an interest in getting involved in UUCF’s LGBTQIA+ social justice ministry, contact Social Justice Coordinator Andrew Batcher.

Welcoming Congregation FAQs
What does it mean to be a Welcoming Congregation?
A Welcoming Congregation aims to encourage the participation of LGBTQIA+ people in all congregational activities, with particular focus on centering the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people into the life of the congregation. In addition, a Welcoming Congregation speaks up for its LGBTQIA+ community and participates in social justice projects designed to promote freedom, justice and equity.
Why does it only refer to LGBTQIA+ people?
Because LGBTQIA+ people have traditionally suffered severe discrimination at the hands of religious and spiritual groups.
Are there other Welcoming Congregations?
There are more than 700 Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregations in the United States and Canada. Learn more here.
