June 23, 2024.
Dear UUCF Community,
Today, in a significant moment in the history of Unitarian Universalism, the delegates to the General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association voted 2025 to 499 to revise Article II of the UUA bylaws. (UU World article about the vote.)
This has been an important process taking place over the last 4 years. These have not been easy discussions – with a great deal of passion – as we have worked to chart our collective path forward. This change places love squarely at the center, surrounded by the newly enumerated values of Equity, Generosity, Interdependence, Justice, Pluralism, and Transformation.
What is clearly true is that although this was sanctified through a vote of the General Assembly, these values and our historic guidance of our 8 principles will be meaningful only if we covenant to practice and live them as much as possible. This coming year will bring significant challenges to our principles and values, as well as our love and commitment and covenant to each other. Our true expression and actual practice of putting love at the center will be vital in helping to carry us collectively forward.
Blessings on us all as we move forward placing love at the center of all we do.
