In 2017, UUCF resettled the family of Marzia Popal and her two children, Munib Jalali and Sahra Jalali. The family were refugees from Afghanistan after Marzia’s husband was killed by the Taliban. All three became competent in English and Marzia proudly became a US citizen a few years ago.
Sadly, Munib passed away in an accident on May 25 at age 20. He had graduated from South Lakes High School and was attending NOVA Community College and working part time.
Marzia works as an instructional assistant in a special-needs classroom. She will not be earning money over the summer and missed the last 3 weeks of work due her son’s death. Over the last year, her son’s challenges required her to spend all of her savings. Marzia has been doing the right things, working, managing her budget, saving, planning, and again life has dealt her a huge blow.
If you are able, consider contributing to a GoFundMe that was set up by friends to help the family weather this financial crisis while they grieve.
